Nintendo have unveiled their games console that seeks to replace the original Nintendo Wii. Previously dubbed Wii 2, the new ‘Wii U’ goes again sees an innovative shift in the games console market through its unique features.
The Nintendo Wii U appears to be a hybrid between a conventional games console and a handheld version such as the Nintendo 3DS due to the fact that it has an integrated 6.2″ touchscreen display and front facing camera within its controller. This opens up a wealth of opportunities for games developers to utilise both the private Wii U controller screen and the conventional television display. It also will let you switch display to your controller if another person is watching TV.
Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata said that “Wii U redefines the structure of home entertainment by fundamentally changing how the TV, the game console and the Internet function and interact together.”
It is expected that the Wii U will be launched in Spring 2012 however Wii U prices are still to be confirmed.
